💼How-to: Interning abroad
How did you discover this internship opportunity?External website

External website - which one?https://www.facebook.com/mzvcr

Can you describe the role you held during your internship?Intern at the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Chile.

What specific responsibilities and tasks did you do during your internship?Assisting the Embassy's permanent staff with whatever was needed - from helping with inventory to physically and organizationally assisting with events at the Embassy to writing analytical reports.

Did your tasks align with the pre-defined conditions?yes

Did the internship meet your expectations?yes

Did you apply any theory you learned at university during the internship?yes

If yes, can you provide a specific example? In writing analytical reports and preparing various documents, I used the knowledge I learned at school - whether on various international political issues or in researching sources, etc.

How well did you manage to communicate in a foreign language?neutral

Did the institution have any special requirements?Technical knowledge (e.g., specific software skills)
Specific language skills

Do you have tips on how to make a great impression on the institution?Don't be afraid, believe in yourself.

How competitive was the selection process? Did you have to go through an application procedure?Since it was held in Chile, there weren't that many people interested, so it was more a matter of how the few available dates for the trip were divided among those of us interested. The selection process was minimal to my knowledge (about 2 other people wanted the same dates).

Why would you recommend students do an internship? It's a great experience, where you really get to know the institution, make interesting contacts and travel in your free time to discover a beautiful new part of the world.

💰And how to fund it?
What were your average monthly expenses during the internship?30000 CZK/month

Did the institution provide accommodation?no

If not, how did you find it?Through Airbnb and then through previous interns at the embassy.

Did you have any unexpected expenses during the internship?no

Do you have any tips on how to save money during the internship? The only way to save money is to go to cheaper restaurants or cook for yourself, not to go to social events in clubs and bars (or especially not to consume alcohol). Of course, the most you can save is traveling, but then you wouldn't see or experience anything in your free time, which would greatly reduce the point of the stay.

🗺 Learn the ropes in a new city
How difficult was it for you to adjust to life abroad?no problem at all

How well did you manage to communicate in English?almost without problems

How does public transport work in the city?mostly fine

And what about transport outside the city?mostly fine

Where to find connections? How to buy a ticket? It is advisable to search for connections via Google maps or various travel sites such as Recorrido.

Did you deal with any health issues during your stay?no

🤠Help create the perfect bucket list
What is a must-see in the city?Cerro san Cristóbal, Plaza de Armas and surroundings, Mercado la Vega, Templo Bahá´í.

What are the must-visit trip destinations?Cajón del Maipo, Valparaíso and surroundings, Villarica / Pucón, Buenos Aires, Mendoza, Portillo and Cristo Redentor de los Andes, Cuzco, Puerto Montt.

Share your best experience:The trip to Mucchu Picchu was beautiful, but the best experience was probably the presentation of the Czech airplane that Let Kunovice sold to Aerocardal (the embassy was not to be missed at this event).

💅A nugget of wisdom to make the life easier
Did you need to handle a visa?no

How did you get to the place?Plane

Is there anything to watch out for before the trip? It's a very long journey, so make sure you take at least 2 days to recover and acclimatise. Also, don't take a taxi at the airport when you arrive (they'll rip you off), rather take one of the buses (like the Turbus ones) that go to the metro stops and then take the metro to the city centre.

Can you pay by card?everywhere

What not to forget when packing?Head cover and sunscreen - there is an ozone hole, so UV radiation is much higher than here in the Czech Republic - most of the time above degree 10.
