Pro přijetí - motivační dopis, nominace ze strany MU.

Zhruba rok dopředu.

Documents and materials needed for a visa:
Každý student z EU může v Kanadě pobývat na vízum v délce trvání 6 měsíců. Toto vízum je uděleno automaticky po přihlášení na webové stránce pro udělení ESTA víza. Potřeba je číslo pasu a fotografie.

Zhruba 250 korun.

Registrace a změny probíhají měsíc před začátkem semestru a týden po začátku semestru (od do).

Ano

0,5 tamních kreditů = 6 MU kreditů

Describe the teaching methods (theory, practical and projects) and assessment of students:
Výuka je založena na psaní esejí, ve kterých studenti popisují a argumentují vlastní názor a pohledy na danou problematiku, zpravidla po každé přednášce je povinnost odevzdání eseje. Hodnocení je subjektivní z pohledu profesora - zdali jsou argumenty dostatečné nebo ne.

Quality of teaching in comparison with home school:
Výuka je obecně více zaměřena na vlastní názory studentů - ne přístup, poslouchej, nauč se, na zkoušce zopakuj. V tom vidím rozdíl oproti českému systému.

How did you receive study materials?:
Materiály (učebnice, online doplňující materiály) si musejí studenti kupovat sami.

Can you recommend an interesting course/subject/teacher?:
Z mého pohledu - Business Communication (předmět zaměřený na psaní CV, Cover Letters, Business Communication, Negotiating and Handling Problems in the Company).

How well is the school library equipped?:
Nemohu hodnotit.

Availability of computers, internet access, level of software needed, requirements on notebook:
Více než dostačující - škola poskytuje 3 velké počítačové učebny (Mac a Dell).

Options from printing and copying:
V knihovně za poplatek.

Does the foreign school/student organisation arrange special events for exchange students?:

Výlet na Niagara Falls.

Where did you live?:
Off campus, pokoj v rodinném době pronajímaný studentům, cca 40 minut pěšky od univerzity, 10 minut autobusem.

Describe the equipment. Tips for future students – what should they bring with them?:
V pokoji chyběla peřina, polštář a lůžkoviny - jelikož byl můj přílet v pozdních hodinách, bylo poněkud nepříjemné řešit nákup lůžkovin pár minut před zavřením obchodů.

How and how far ahead should accommodation be organised?:
Cca 4 měsíce dopředu - najít volné pokoje/místo pak bývá problém.

What are the catering options?:
Na univerzitě je mnoho fast foodů - Subway, McDonald's, Starbucks, Tim Horton's a další varianty. Vyplatí se ovšem si vařit (ve škole je vícero míst s mikrovlnkami).

What are the rough costs of groceries (compare with Czech prices):
Cca 2x vyšší ceny, závisí ovšem na druhu zboží (v Kanadě jsou různé daně na různé druhy potravin).

Letecky.

Cca 16000 Kč

What are the local transport options (public transport, cycling, on foot, rough prices):
Studenti jsou povinni si koupit semestrální jízdenku na autobusy. Vlaková doprava zde téměř neexistuje. Většina studentů má vlastní auto.

What kind of formalities have to be arranged before arrival, for example residence permit?:
Nevím o žádných.

What health insurance did you use? (rough price, advantages, disadvantages, is it necessary to arrange insurance at the university other than your home (Czech) insurance?):
Studenti jsou povinni si zakoupit pojištění od univerzity (cca 13000 Kč)

Did you have any experience with medical treatment abroad?:
Ne.

Did you work during your studies?:
Ne v Kanadě.

What are the conditions for working for MU students?:
Potřeba speciální povolení, ale více informací poskytuje sama univerzita (případně pomůže i s vybavením povolení).

Tips for free-time activities:
Výlety po okolí Niagara Region, Toronto (cca 1,5 hodiny FlixBusem), levné letenky do Vancouveru, letiště Buffalo USA (cca 30 minut FlixBusem) - lety do New Yorku a jiných amerických měst.

Závažnými ne, spíše s běžnými problémy spojenými s cestováním (zpožděné lety, tracking zavazadla apod.)

What would you recommend to take with you:
Mimo běžných věcí (jako cestovní pas, kartičku pojištění atd.): kartu s místní měnou (Wise, Revolut), adaptéry do zásuvky, české sladkosti pro spolužáky.

What most surprised you at the partner university in a positive way:
Vybavenost, a to ať už například počítačových učeben, tak i velkého fitness centra se vstupem pro studenty zdarma.
Dále pak přístup ke vzdělávání - vlastní názor je zde hodnocen velmi pozitivně.
Poměrně rychlá emailová komunikace ze stran profesorů (odpověď na email zpravidla do několika minut).

What most surprised you at the partner university in a negative way:
Skutečná náročnost studia. Nemyslím náročnost obsahovou, ale časovou. Psaní esejí do předmětů každý týden + skupinové projekty několikrát za semestr + vlastní projekty několikrát za semestr.
