✅Check the boxes
How would you categorize your internship?Natural Sciences

💼How-to: Interning abroad
How did you discover this internship opportunity?MU website

Did your tasks align with the pre-defined conditions?yes

Did the internship meet your expectations?yes

Did you apply any theory you learned at university during the internship?yes

How well did you manage to communicate in a foreign language?perfectly

Why would you recommend students do an internship? This is an excellent opportunity to travel abroad (and for little or no cost). Sure, you have to work during the week (which should ideally be fun and stimulating, as you can arrange the internship yourself), but you can make the most of the free time to travel around the country, which was probably the main reason I applied for the internship.

💰And how to fund it?
What were your average monthly expenses during the internship?18000 CZK/month

Did the institution provide accommodation?yes

Did you have any unexpected expenses during the internship?yes

If yes, what were they?I decided to spend one of my free weekends at a music festival in Croatia :D.

Do you have any tips on how to save money during the internship? The biggest savings are probably on accommodation. In my case, the university gave me the opportunity to live in the dorms, which I was happy to take advantage of.

🗺 Learn the ropes in a new city
How difficult was it for you to adjust to life abroad?no problem at all

How well did you manage to communicate in English?perfectly

How does public transport work in the city?neutral

And what about transport outside the city?I've seen better

Where to find connections? How to buy a ticket? In general, I would probably rely on Google maps the most in big cities. Specifically in Slovenia and Ljubljana, each carrier (public transport, long-distance buses, trains) has a separate app to navigate. Unfortunately, their transport is not as centralized as our IDOS.

Did you deal with any health issues during your stay?no

🤠Help create the perfect bucket list
What is a must-see in the city?In Ljubljana, it is definitely Ljubljana Castle.

What are the must-visit trip destinations? The Slovenian sea is only about an hour and a half away from Ljubljana, so I would definitely recommend going to Piran, for example. There are also mountains very close by (Kamnik and Julian Alps, Triglav National Park - lakes Bled and Bohinj), so I highly recommend bringing hiking boots. Personally, I would most recommend visiting Velika Planina, which I found absolutely enchanting.

Share your best experience:It would be hard to choose just one of the trips, so I will mention a (semi-)work experience. Just before my departure, my colleagues prepared an excellent barbecue for me, which turned out to be a very touching farewell.

💅A nugget of wisdom to make the life easier
Did you need to handle a visa?no

How did you get to the place?Bus

Can you pay by card?in most places

🥳Summary
Whew, what a ride! 😮‍💨 Thanks so much for taking the time to complete our survey and for sharing your unique experience. Just one last thing. 🙏 How would you summarize your trip in one or two sentences?During the two months of my internship in Ljubljana, I managed to discover almost the whole of Slovenia. Sure, I worked when I had to, but in hindsight I can only remember the unforgettable places I had the opportunity to visit.
