Language requirements: Students who wish to take a course taught in English are advised to demonstrate English proficiency of TOEFL iBT 80, IELTS 6.0, TOEIC 700, CEFR B2, or any other assessment of a similar level or above.

Students who wish to take a course taught in Mandarin are advised to achieve TOCFL Superior or HSK Level 4, or above. Some departments or colleges (e.g. the College of Informatics or the College of Science) may require a higher level of Mandarin proficiency (at least C1).
Supported academic levels: Bachelor, Master, Doctoral
Academic minimum required: Minimal required GPA: 2.75
GPA = Grade Point Average, a number from 0.0 to 4.0 (0.0 = fail, 4.0 = excellent)
ECTS usage: No. Each NCCU credit translates to 1 lecture hour per week, for a total of 16 weeks. This lecture hour only refer to the time the students spent attending classes, and does not include the time the students allocated for self-study. Even though NCCU does not count the self-study time, we expect students to allocate 2-3 hours for self-study per week for each NCCU credit. Thus, each NCCU credit translates to around 48-64 hours of work each semester.
A minimum course load at MU consists of 20 ECTS credits per semester. This is equivalent to 10 credits at National Chengchi University. The final decision on the recognition of credits at MU in your Learning Agreement is up to the departmental coordinator at MU.
Further academic details: Graduate students can take undergraduate courses and vice-versa.
Graduate students taking an undergraduate course:
Undergraduate courses taken by a graduate student will be marked with a hyphen (-) next to their credit description. This is merely because the transcript does not distinguish between exchange student and degree students. NCCU regulation stipulates that undergraduate courses cannot count toward graduate students' credit requirements. However, this regulation should not concern exchange students, and credit transfer will be done according to the exchange student's home university policies. If the home university agrees to accredit the undergraduate courses' credits, then the exchange student do not need to worry about seeing the hyphen (-).

Undergraduate student taking a graduate course:
Undergraduate students may only take graduate course by the professor's approval. The professor reserve the right whether to accept or decline students' course enrollment request.
Recommended fields of study: NCCU specializes in humanities, social and political sciences, and foreign languages (including Chinese).
Forbidden fields of study: Exchange students cannot take the courses offered by the following programs:
- International Master's Program in Asia-Pacific Studies (IMAS);
- International Master of Business Administration (IMBA);
- Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA);
- College of Global Banking and Finance;
- On-Job Training Programs;
- Extended Minor Course with credit fee; and
- The department of the students' native language (e.g., Czech students cannot take Czech courses offered by the Department of Slavic Languages and Cultures).
Financial conditions: All foreign students in NCCU need to pay for the government-mandated NCCU Group Insurance fee: under NT$ 250 per semester.
