We can accept up to four semester-long students in total for Autumn 2027 and Spring 2028.
Language requirements: Josai International University offers a wide range of courses conducted in both Japanese and English.
Exchange students are expected to have sufficient language proficiency—either in Japanese or English—to participate actively in classes and complete coursework successfully.

Students who wish to take courses offered mainly in Japanese are encouraged to have Japanese language proficiency around the JLPT N2 level or higher, as this will help them follow lectures and assignments smoothly.
However, students with other forms of Japanese learning experience or motivation to improve their Japanese skills may also be considered.

Similarly, those who plan to take courses taught in English are expected to have an adequate level of English proficiency and are encouraged to submit proof of their ability, such as TOEFL iBT, IELTS, or other equivalent certificates (e.g., CEFR B2 level or above).

Please note that, in accordance with immigration requirements, students without sufficient Japanese language ability may be advised to focus on courses offered by the Department of International Exchange Studies.
Nevertheless, Josai International University continues to actively welcome exchange students from diverse backgrounds and encourages participation in courses conducted in either language.
ECTS usage: No. At Josai International University, the transcript shows only the number of credits earned and the final grades (A, B, C, etc.).
JIU operates on a quarter system, and students earn 2 credits by attending fourteen 105-minute classes.

As our credit system is based on the Japanese higher education framework, it cannot be directly converted into ECTS credits.
Therefore, we kindly ask your university to make its own assessment for credit transfer based on your internal criteria, and information here are only supportive.
A minimum course load at MU consists of 20 ECTS credits per semester. This is equivalent to 16 credits at Josai International University. The final decision on the recognition of credits at MU in your Learning Agreement is up to the departmental coordinator at MU.
Recommended fields of study: Faculty of International Humanities, Department of International Exchange Studies
Forbidden fields of study: Pharmaceutical Sciences and Nursing Studies are not available for exchange students.
