🎓Hit the books! How do you rate the university experience?
Can you enroll in a course where you can learn the local language?no

Does the university offer enough courses in English?none

Are your credits converted?no

💸Did you have to rob the bank?
Try to take a guess at what your monthly expenditures were:24000 CZK/month

Did you stay in dorms?no

Do you have any tips on how to find private accommodation?Facebook groups Apartments, Rooms & Roommates in Rijeka and Home Rent by ESN Rijeka.

What about unexpected expenses? Did anything surprise you?In shops, ingredients are usually much more expensive than here - for example, toast with cheese and ham has ceased to be a cheap go-to dinner for me. And it cost me 900 CZK to bake a cake, ouch.

Do you have any tips on how to save money? With a student card, even Erasmus students are entitled to three discounted meals (soup, main course, drink, dessert) in the canteen every day. With this discount, this entire menu cost me under 1.5 euros. I only cooked for myself about three times in the whole Erasmus.

🗺 Learn the ropes in a new city
How well did you manage to communicate in English?perfectly

How does public transport work in the city?runs like clockwork

And what about transport outside the city?I've seen better

Where to find connections? How to buy a ticket?I found the local app (RijekaBus) quite unintuitive, I ended up using only Google maps. You can buy a monthly ticket for 8 euros after the post-arrival administration is done in the centre, and you can simply renew it online every month after that. Single tickets are expensive, bought at newsagents or on the bus, but the driver only accepts cash.

Did you deal with any health issues during your stay?no

🤠Help create the perfect bucket list
What is a must-see in the city?Klub Mladih - the bar where you'll spend most of your evenings. It's in the centre of town and it's mainly where Erasmus students and other foreigners meet. And from 17:00 to 20:00 they have happy hour!
A great place to watch sunsets, yap sessions with friends and mental health walks is Mololongo - an almost 2 km long pier in the city centre.
Rijeka doesn't have a lot of sights, but I loved the local castle, which has a hipster vibe, a nice cafe and a great view.

What are the must-visit trip destinations?Just "around the corner" is the beautiful tourist town of Opatija and just a little further is the spa town of Lovran. What is further away, but I definitely recommend visiting, are Venice, Trieste, Ljubljana, Split (or even more distant Dubrovnik).
For nature, head to Plitvice Lakes or Risnjak National Park.
And travel to the nearby island of Krk, which has beautiful everything!

Share your best experience:I was probably happiest on a weekend trip to Split, where I went with a Turkish-French-Polish group of friends.

💅A nugget of wisdom to make the life easier
Did you need to handle a visa?no

How did you get to the place?Bus
Car

Is there anything to watch out for before the trip?I don't recommend flying from the Czech Republic by plane, the airport is far from the city and FlixBus runs from Brno to Rijeka frequently and the overnight journey can be easily managed.

Can you pay by card?in most places

What not to forget when packing?I guess I didn't need anything special.

🥳Summary
Whew, what a ride! 😮‍💨 Thanks so much for taking the time to complete our survey and for sharing your unique experience. Just one last thing. 🙏 How would you summarize your trip in one or two sentences?Rijeka is like Brno, but make it Balkan. Small, student, safe, but often unpredictable - weather or traffic.
