🎓Hit the books! How do you rate the university experience?
Can you enroll in a course where you can learn the local language?yes

Does the university offer enough courses in English?it's alright

Are your credits converted?yes

Can you give an example?Their system operates on modules that often contain multiple subjects that are recognised at MUNI. Their "Heart, Chest and Peripheral Vascular Diseases" for 9 credits was recognized for Surgery, two parts of Internal Medicine and Diff. Dg. in Surgery.

Was there anything in the teaching methods that surprised you? They have a separate Clinical Rotations course - if you don't write it down, you won't see many patients. Their modules are purely theoretical, it's this course that is used for the practical part at the bedside.

Does the university offer international students' programs and activities outside of lectures and seminars to help them integrate more quickly?Yes, especially at the beginning of the semester there were quite a few - orientation days, getting-to-know-you games, etc., which are organized not by the university itself, but rather by the local student association.

In which areas does the university offer support for students with special needs and strive to be inclusive?Psychological counseling
Barrier-free access to classrooms and dormitories
Crisis intervention
Support for LGBTQ+ students (e.g., safe spaces, counseling services)

💸Did you have to rob the bank?
Try to take a guess at what your monthly expenditures were:18000 CZK/month

Did you stay in dorms?no

Do you have any tips on how to find private accommodation?Getting a private room is a big struggle, few people respond, good offers disappear quickly. I got lucky before Airbnb, but I was already quite desperate, the hostel rejected me, and this was practically the only positive answer I received. And I certainly could have lived better.

What about unexpected expenses? Did anything surprise you?I was paying around 400 eur per month for accommodation, but you can get it much cheaper. Very student price for public transport. Food expenses about similar to the Czech Republic, maybe a bit more. Expensive beer!

Do you have any tips on how to save money?Loyalty cards to supermarkets if you want to travel to neighbouring countries (recommended!), flight tickets are very cheap.

🗺 Learn the ropes in a new city
How well did you manage to communicate in English?almost without problems

How does public transport work in the city?runs like clockwork

And what about transport outside the city?runs like clockwork

Where to find connections? How to buy a ticket? In Kaunas, use the Trafi app to find connections directly, and Žiogas to buy tickets. State trains LTG Link, all quite understandable, possibility to switch to English.

Did you deal with any health issues during your stay?no

🤠Help create the perfect bucket list
What is a must-see in the city?Laisves Aleja and Soboras, museums (mainly devoted to devils and devils), the Old Town, the castle (actually a fortress), beautiful churches in many architectural styles, a mini-mosque, a synagogue, the confluence of rivers, the Zalgirio Arena (just a must go to basketball at least once), the monastery by the dam.

What are the must-visit trip destinations?Vilnius is an hour and a quarter away by train, also a very beautiful city. Catch Trakai Castle on the island outside of the late autumn/winter season to take in the views. The Hill of Crosses just outside of Šiauliai is an unforgettable experience. And it's also worth going to Klaipeda to see the country's oldest brewery, Lithuania's largest harbour and the local beautiful dolphinarium + to see the sand dunes in the Curonian Spit National Park.

Share your best experience:Basketball game in Zalgirio Arena, when the local team is playing.

💅A nugget of wisdom to make the life easier
Did you need to handle a visa?no

How did you get to the place?Train
Car

Is there anything to watch out for before the trip? The bus and train stations are relatively central, the airport is just outside the city, but there is a bus line from the city centre. When travelling by train, you have to change trains at the border with Poland - Lithuania uses a different gauge.

Can you pay by card?everywhere

What not to forget when packing?Proper winter clothing - temperatures in January were almost constantly below -10°C. And sports clothes - the opportunity to join many sports clubs or go to the gym for a pittance.

🥳Summary

Just one last thing. 🙏 How would you summarize your trip in one or two sentences?Lithuania is a very beautiful country of many contrasts, beautiful nature and rich history.
