💼How-to: Interning abroad
How did you discover this internship opportunity?Recommendation from acquaintances

Can you describe the role you held during your internship?Volunteer. We planned our internship all by ourselves, so there was no single position, we created our work every day.

What specific responsibilities and tasks did you do during your internship? The main focus was organizing workshops on health, menstruation, menstrual poverty, hygiene and other topics related to our field of study, health education.

Did your tasks align with the pre-defined conditions?yes

Did the internship meet your expectations?yes

Did you apply any theory you learned at university during the internship?yes

If yes, can you provide a specific example? As I wrote above:)

How well did you manage to communicate in a foreign language?almost no difficulties

Do you have tips on how to make a great impression on the institution? Our institution was a small organization in Brno that was enthusiastic about our work and ideas. Any volunteer who puts his heart and a lot of energy into his work will succeed, the main thing is to be serious and really helpful and open to new experiences.

How competitive was the selection process? Did you have to go through an application procedure? No, by going a completely different route, there was no such thing as a selection.

Why would you recommend students do an internship?Incredibly great experience! In my opinion, you can't get more out of life than traveling. Tested it for myself. I'm nearing the end of my studies and the only thing that bothers me is that I didn't go every time I could have. Unfortunately the conditions aren't always right, but if the conditions are right and you're just hesitant about whether it's worth it.. it is! Go, fly, explore. The world and yourself. It's the best.

💰And how to fund it?

🤠Help create the perfect bucket list
What is a must-see in the city? Not exactly in the city, when you live on the border of the rainforest for two months, you are more interested in nature, where to go hiking and catching views and sunsets or the beautiful experience of trekking mountain gorillas.

What are the must-visit trip destinations?Definitely don't skip the safari, Uganda has a lot of natural beauty, for example Queen Elisabeth National Park, Murchison Falls, Lake Victoria.. and many more.

Share your best experience:We had a lot of experiences, but the best one is probably the aforementioned trekking of mountain gorillas, which live only in a few places on the planet, with our luck a few gorilla families live in the rainforest, next to which we could live for two months. An event like this cannot do without an experienced guide and other rangers who know exactly what to do and how to behave. You have to follow clearly given rules, such as wearing a veil when in contact with the animals to prevent the transmission of diseases. When you're just a few metres away from such majestic animals as gorillas undoubtedly are, it takes your breath away and you can't really realise how lucky you are at that moment. It's really incredible and beautiful. We've tried to post documentation on social media as well, although it hasn't always been easy with local connections. Our Instagram profile is called @bwindi.diary, feel free to check out the photos and videos.

Car

Is there anything to watch out for before the trip?Get plenty of rest. Our trip took over 40 hours, it was tough.

Can you pay by card?sometimes

What not to forget when packing?Surprisingly for Africa, it's warm clothing. We went higher up in the mountains and in the rainy season. so we were cold quite often, even though we were almost on the equator. Other things we can mention include repellents, anti-malarials and medicines, but it depends on the area you are going to, for example around lakes the situation with mosquitoes and the diseases they carry will be much worse.

🥳Summary
Whew, what a ride! 😮‍💨 Thanks so much for taking the time to complete our survey and for sharing your unique experience. Just one last thing. 🙏 How would you summarize your trip in one or two sentences? The summary is... go! Africa has a lot to offer. Just like the rest of the world. Don't hesitate to pack your backpack, it will enrich you.
