🎓Hit the books! How do you rate the university experience?
Can you enroll in a course where you can learn the local language?yes

Are your credits converted?yes

Can you give an example? In Uruguay they have a different credit system, it works out to 1 credit in Uruguay = 0.6 ETCS credits. For example: 8 = 5 ETCS credits.

Was there anything in the teaching methods that surprised you?I was surprised that UDELAR University is free for everyone of any age. It created an interesting environment across generations.

Does the university offer international students' programs and activities outside of lectures and seminars to help them integrate more quickly? In Montevideo there is MIS (ig: @mis_uruguay), a student association that creates events for international students. We had an integration day from the school at the beginning of our stay. The coordinator at the local university travelled to Brno, she really likes the students from the Czech Republic and is very nice.

💸Did you have to rob the bank?
Try to take a guess at what your monthly expenditures were:25000 CZK/month

Did you stay in dorms?no

Do you have any tips on how to find private accommodation? The university does not have dormitories, but there are residences in the city where you can live. There are also two houses for international students, MYO HOUSE (myo_studentshouse), where students often meet before parties in the city, nothing for anyone who is not the partying type.

I found accommodation through airbnb, I wanted a separate room.

What about unexpected expenses? Did anything surprise you?I don't remember, I knew I was going to an expensive country.

Do you have any tips on how to save money?IBERIA JOVEN offers a discount on air tickets for students (up to 30 years old) when opening an account. Furthermore, find accommodation at the residence, not through airbnb. A student card for local public transport can be arranged (cash is needed to charge the card). Next time I might consider opening a local account e.g. Itaú (there are various discounts around town), but I admit I don't know if it's possible and what the conditions are there. Then shop at Feria de Tristán Narvaja every Sunday, but they also only take cash. Mercado Agrícola is also great for shopping.

🗺 Learn the ropes in a new city
How does public transport work in the city?mostly fine

And what about transport outside the city?mostly fine

Where to find connections? How to buy a ticket?Only buses operate in the country. Be sure to use the Urubus app, looking for connections of perhaps all companies, an app used by locals. Tickets can be bought directly through the app. Online payments didn't always work for me though, I had two cards and would definitely recommend it. One VISA and one Mastercard.

Did you deal with any health issues during your stay?no

🤠Help create the perfect bucket list
What is a must-see in the city?Rambla, Palacio Legislativo (inside tour), Mirador panorámico, Ciudad Vieja, Parque Rodó, Candombe, Parque Prado

What are the must-visit trip destinations?Piriápolis, Punta del Este, Colonia del Sacramento, Rocha

💅A nugget of wisdom to make the life easier
Did you need to handle a visa?no

How did you get to the place?Plane

Is there anything to watch out for before the trip?No visa is required, you can stay in the country as a tourist for 90 days. However, it is necessary to cross the border within 90 days and then return to the country. The airport in Montevideo is accessible, the possibility of taxi (Uber, Cabify) or public transport (cash, uyu pesos).

Can you pay by card?neutral

What not to forget when packing?Be sure to have physical credit cards, cash and a passport.
