🎓Hit the books! How do you rate the university experience?
Can you enroll in a course where you can learn the local language?yes

Does the university offer enough courses in English?they have tons

Are your credits converted?yes

Can you give an example?E.g., a foreign university offers a course for 10 credits, but MUNI recognizes it for 5 credits or vice versa.

Was there anything in the teaching methods that surprised you?Yes, I was positively surprised by how practical and hands-on the teaching methods at ECU were. Compared to my home university, where the approach is more theoretical, the courses at ECU focused heavily on real-world application. For example, we worked on actual case studies, analyzed financial data, proposed business solutions, and even created our own business plans. These activities made the learning experience much more engaging and relevant to real-life situations.

Although the workload at ECU included a lot of reading and academic articles, which could sometimes feel overwhelming. I must say that I’ve learned a lot during this semester. To be completely honest, this practical experience helped me understand the topics on a much deeper level, and I truly appreciated the opportunity.

Does the university offer international students' programs and activities outside of lectures and seminars to help them integrate more quickly?Yes and no. ECU does have the ECU Guild, which is somewhat similar to ESN (Erasmus Student Network) at my home university. They did organize a few events, such as a Swan Valley wine tour, which was a nice initiative. However, overall, their activity level was quite limited, and there weren’t many opportunities to regularly engage with other students through social or cultural events.

As a result, integrating socially was sometimes quite difficult, especially for international students who didn’t know anyone beforehand. More frequent and varied activities could really help future students feel more connected and supported from the beginning.

In which areas does the university offer support for students with special needs and strive to be inclusive?Psychological counseling
Barrier-free access to classrooms and dormitories
Interpretation services
Special aids and technologies (e.g., text-to-speech software, hearing aids)
Special examination conditions (e.g., extended time, quiet rooms)
Crisis intervention
Support for LGBTQ+ students (e.g., safe spaces, counseling services)

💸Did you have to rob the bank?
Try to take a guess at what your monthly expenditures were:20000 CZK/month

Did you stay in dorms?yes

What about unexpected expenses? Did anything surprise you?No, not really. I didn’t encounter any unexpected expenses during my stay. Everything was more or less as I had anticipated.

Do you have any tips on how to save money?Yes! Shopping at Aldi or Coles is a great way to save money, especially on groceries. I highly recommend downloading their mobile apps, as they often offer special discounts and weekly deals that can really help you stick to a budget. Planning your shopping around those promotions can make a noticeable difference in your spending.

🤠Help create the perfect bucket list
What is a must-see in the city? One must-see in Perth is definitely Kings Park and Botanic Garden. It offers stunning views of the city skyline and the Swan River.
Another highlight is Fremantle, you can explore the markets, grab fish and chips by the harbour, and visit the historic Fremantle Prison.

What are the must-visit trip destinations? If you have more time, a day trip to Rottnest Island is also a must! It’s famous for its beautiful beaches and friendly quokkas.
Margaret River is perfect for a weekend trip, this region is known for its wineries, beautiful coastline, and caves. Great for wine tasting, surfing, or just relaxing in nature.

Swan Valley is closer to the city, it’s a great half-day trip for wine tasting, chocolate, and local produce.

Share your best experience:My best experience was visiting Rottnest Island during the Australian summer! I highly recommend it. The island is absolutely beautiful white sandy beaches, turquoise water, and of course, the famous quokkas! We rented bikes and spent the day exploring different bays and swimming in the ocean. It truly felt like paradise.

Based on my personal experience, I would recommend spending at least 2–3 days on the island. It’s quite large, and if you want to fully enjoy each beach and take your time.

Just a small reminder (which I forgot myself!): Australia’s summer is the opposite of the European one. So if you're coming from Europe, keep in mind that summer here runs from December to February.
